چکیده

The intersection of line segments has already been studied by several authors. Several problems occurs when using floating point representation, in which number comparison is performed using a tolerance value. One of the main problems is the non-transitive property, as it may lead to incorrect results. Thus, fixed precision is preferred because it solves several problems. However, fixed precision adoption has some complications. One of the issues is relates to the intersection determination between two or more line segments. Particularly, in this research, it is shown that current methods to determine intersection between line segments with fixed precision are not commutative; i.e., depending on which order the line segments are processed a different result may be obtained. The line segment partition problem must be solved beforehand. In order to approach these problems, two line segment representations are considered: geometric and set representation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work which discusses the non commutative problem of line segment intersection with finite precision.

Triangle-Free Geometric Intersection Graphs with No Large Independent Sets

It is proved that there are triangle-free intersection graphs of line segments in the plane with arbitrarily small ratio between the maximum size of an independent set and the total number of vertices.

On grid intersection graphs

Hartman I.B.-A., I. Newman and R. Ziv, On grid intersection graphs, Discrete Mathematics 87 (1991) 41-52. A bipartite graph G = (X, Y; E) has a grid representation if X and Y correspond to sets of horizontal and vertical segments in the plane, respectively, such that (xi, y,) E E if and only if segments x, and y, intersect. We prove that all planar bipartite graphs have a grid representation, a...

All-Pairs Shortest Paths in Geometric Intersection Graphs

We address the All-Pairs Shortest Paths (APSP) problem for a number of unweighted, undirected geometric intersection graphs. We present a general reduction of the problem to static, offline intersection searching (specifically detection). As a consequence, we can solve APSP for intersection graphs of n arbitrary disks in O ( n logn ) time, axis-aligned line segments in O ( n log log n ) time, a...

LINE-SEGMENTS CRITICAL SLIP SURFACE IN EARTH SLOPES USING AN OPTIMIZATION METHOD

In this paper the factor of safety (FS) and critical line-segments slip surface obtained by the Alternating Variable Local Gradient (AVLG) optimization method was presented as a new topic in 2D. Results revealed that the percentage of reduction in the FS obtained by switching from a circular shape to line segments was higher with the AVLG method than other methods. The 2D-AVLG optimization meth...

Deriving Fuzzy Inequalities Using Discrete Approximation of Fuzzy Numbers

Most of the researches in the domain of fuzzy number comparisons serve the fuzzy number ordering purpose. For making a comparison between two fuzzy numbers, beyond the determination of their order, it is needed to derive the magnitude of their order. In line with this idea, the concept of inequality is no longer crisp however it becomes fuzzy in the sense of representing partial belonging or de...
